1. Chapter and act structure
The Natlan Archon Quest is Chapter V: "Incandescent Ode of Resurrection." The main war story runs across six numbered acts plus one interlude, released between versions 5.0 and 5.3. The acts are Act I "Flowers Resplendent on the Sun-Scorched Sojourn" (5.0), Act II "Black Stone Under a White Stone" (5.1), Act III "Beyond the Smoke and Mirrors" (5.2), Act IV "The Rainbow Destined to Burn" (5.3), the interlude "All Fires Fuel the Flame" (5.3), and Act V "Incandescent Ode of Resurrection" (5.3). Adventure Rank 40 unlocks Act I, and the chain requires the Fontaine finale "Bedtime Story" first.
As of version 5.x, the chapter was later extended with Act VI "A Space and Time for You" (reportedly version 5.7), which follows Xbalanque's one-day return rather than advancing the Abyss war. The core conflict, from the Stadium of the Sacred Flame to the defeat of Gosoythoth, concludes in Act V. Treat Act VI as a coda unless you are on a patch that has shipped it.
How the acts build the war
Act I drops the Traveler into Natlan through Kachina and the Pilgrimage tournament, then sends them to recover Kachina's Ancient Name after she falls in the Night Kingdom. Act II widens the cast across the tribes and introduces the deeper ley line crisis. Act III ("Beyond the Smoke and Mirrors") brings Citlali and Ororon's search together with the Fatui Captain's plan to rebuild the ley lines. Act IV ("The Rainbow Destined to Burn") is the full Abyss invasion and the war across Natlan, and Act V closes it inside the Night Kingdom. Before starting, the Pyro element guide and the character list cover who fights where.
2. Mavuika and the Pyro Archon's war
Mavuika is the Pyro Archon and God of War, and she carries the Natlan Archon Quest on her back. Unlike Furina, she is a direct combatant: she rides her Flamestrider, wields a greatsword, and leads the war front personally. The quest frames her as someone who made a hard bargain with Ronova, the Ruler of Death, borrowing power to hold the line against the Abyss in exchange for a future price on her own life. That debt is the ticking clock under the whole chapter.
Mavuika's plan depends on the Ode of Resurrection and the Pilgrimage of the Return of the Sacred Flame, systems the first Pyro Archon, Xbalanque, established with Ronova centuries earlier. The Ancient Names forged by Xilonen are how mortals tap the Night Kingdom's strength, and Mavuika uses them to rally the six tribes. By Act V, after the Traveler gains the Pyro Resonance inside the Night Kingdom, she and the Traveler purge the abyssal corruption together.
The Six Tribes and the war front
The Natlan Archon Quest moves the player between the Children of Echoes, Scions of the Canopy, People of the Springs, Masters of the Night-Wind, Flower-Feather Clan, and Collective of Plenty. Each tribe contributes a hero to the final stand, and the war set-pieces in Act IV let you pick support locations on the map. This is the first region where the Archon Quest treats the whole nation as one battlefield rather than a single city, and the Natlan map is worth keeping open to track the tribe zones.
3. The Night Kingdom and Xbalanque
The Night Kingdom is Natlan's underworld, the resting place of the dead and the source of the ley line power the nation runs on. The Traveler enters it repeatedly: first to save Kachina when an Ode of Resurrection ceremony fails, and later with Mavuika to confront Gosoythoth at its deepest point. The Lord of the Night (Yohualtecuhtin) governs it and, after the war, returns to maintain the ley lines.
Xbalanque is the first Pyro Archon, a mortal who defeated the great dragon, bargained with Ronova to create Natlan's rules of war and resurrection, and set the system that lets later mortals ascend to Archonhood. During the Abyss battle, Gosoythoth weaponizes the memories of Xbalanque and the prior Pyro Archons to break the Traveler's morale. After Natlan wins, Ronova honors Xbalanque's old bet and lets him return to the living world for a single day, which is the focus of the later Act VI. His presence ties the modern war back to the founding of Natlan itself.
4. Capitano and the final sacrifice
Capitano, the Fatui Harbinger known as "The Captain," is one of the most important figures in the Natlan Archon Quest despite being an outsider. His stated goal is to rebuild the ley lines of Natlan, but his true motivation is his Khaenri'ahn immortality curse and the souls of his fallen comrades he carries. In Act V, after Mavuika defeats Gosoythoth, Ronova arrives to collect the Pyro Archon's life as payment for the borrowed power.
Capitano intervenes. As an immortal, he forces Ronova into a choice: take his "life" and be denied the death she seeks, or lift the curse on his people. Ronova upholds the curse, and Capitano gives his life for the Night Kingdom, merging his existence with the Lord of the Night to strengthen and rewrite the ley line rules. The result is practical and permanent: Natlanese can now leave the nation freely, and outsiders can enter the Night Kingdom. It is a cleaner ending than Mavuika's intended self-sacrifice, and it repositions the Fatui from antagonists to reluctant allies for this arc.
5. Key characters you fight alongside
The Natlan Archon Quest introduces a wide playable roster, most of whom act as active war participants. Kinich (Dendro claymore) and his companion Ajaw help with the Ancient Name recovery and front-line combat. Mualani (Hydro catalyst) anchors the People of the Springs storyline and the hot-spring interlude. Chasca (Anemo bow) joins the Flower-Feather Clan aerial ops. Xilonen (Geo sword) is the blacksmith who forges the Traveler's Ancient Name, which is a literal plot beat, not just flavor. Citlali (Cryo catalyst) and Ororon (Electro bow) drive Act III's investigation and the Captain's ley line plan.
Kachina (Geo polearm) is the emotional anchor of Act I and the reason the Night Kingdom subplot exists, and Iansan (Electro polearm) appears in the interlude's "disease" mystery. If you want to build any of them, the character pages line up their roles with where the quest places them.
6. Boss: Gosoythoth and the Lord of the Eroded Primal Fire
The climax boss of the Natlan Archon Quest is Gosoythoth, an eldritch Abyss entity that corrupts the Night Kingdom and transforms into the Lord of the Eroded Primal Fire. The fight in Act V ("Where All Hopes Lie") forces the player to indwell three Saurian types across obstacle courses to reach the peak of the Night Kingdom, then battle Gosoythoth as the Pyro Traveler with Mavuika joining for the second phase. The Lord of the Night summons tribe totems that empower a finishing slash to guarantee the kill.
After the quest, the Lord of the Eroded Primal Fire becomes a weekly Trounce boss, unlocked by completing Act V. Its drops are used to level the Pyro Traveler's constellations via Blazing Flint Ore at the Throne of the Primal Fire in Ochkanatlan, which only opens after "When All Becomes a Monument." The boss has no standard elemental weakness, so most teams run the Pyro Traveler plus a strong on-field DPS and a healer for the sustained second phase.
7. Length and rewards
The Natlan Archon Quest is a long, cutscene-dense arc, with Act IV and Act V being the heaviest. Each act grants Adventure EXP, Mora, Hero's Wit, and Mystic Enhancement Ore, and the Primogem totals across the acts run into the low hundreds. Act V's sub-quests award collectibles such as "The Cornerstone of Stars and Flames" and the Pilgrim's Chronicle, plus story achievements like "When All Becomes a Monument." Completing the arc also unlocks the Lord of the Eroded Primal Fire domain and the Throne of the Primal Fire.
For navigation while playing, the Natlan map marks the Stadium of the Sacred Flame, Ochkanatlan, and the tribe zones, and the quests index links the Tribal Chronicles that overlap with the main story.
